Àánú Sodipe

An accomplished violinist, composer, and singer-songwriter, Àánú was born in East London to Yorùbá parents and is proud of the way her heritage and its rich culture influences her music. She is praised for her versatility, freelancing with the Chineke! Orchestra, BBC Concert orchestra, Outlook orchestra and Brixton Chamber Orchestra and appearing on stage with afrobeat artist Asake at his sold out O2 Arena show in 2023 and with Stormzy at the 2023 Brit Awards.

A Winner of the first Hackney Mayor’s Music Award in 2013, Àánú was invited back in 2023 to the same award ceremony at the Hackney Empire as the guest soloist, where she performed her original, Bebop Bach for violin and piano. She also won the Award for Young Musicians in 2014. She graduated from Trinity Laban Conservatoire in 2022 with a 1st Class Bachelor’s degree and Master of Music qualifications. She was awarded scholarships from the Rhona Reid Charitable Trust, Helen Roll, Trinity College London, and Black Heart Foundation during 2020-2021. She continues to use her musicianship, rich training and culture in service to communities, through music, be it composing, performing, teaching, or leading workshops.
